You remember as a kid when you’d carefully fold your super cool Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup t-shirt into your kid-sized luggage and be so excited to head off to summer camp? You’d spend a week in a cabin staying up late and sneaking out to go star gazing and somehow after a few nights under the same roof, you and your new band of outsiders would be lifelong friends…
That’s MF in a nutshell except being an adult is 10,000 times more fun. There’s no way to predict how or if a group will come together, but you know what helps? Booze. Case and point:
You know what else helps? An abbey large enough to provide for some solo time yet with enough hidden nooks (complete with giant fireplaces) to have soulful conversations. You know what helps the most though? When everyone shows up with an open heart, has the same love of good living, and is just down to sip up all that life has to offer.
As one Feaster put it, “The surprise came from the people though. If I were to try to write about all of my favorite experiences, I would just be writing a detailed log of the entire trip, but the people who gravitated to Tim and Laura that ended up on this trip were truly incredible. I feel enriched by the interactions with every single person we met. The moment that we arrived in Sicily and the group collectively cheered on the one remaining retreater as she came to the terminal sold it for me. I just felt immediately at ease with the amazing group of people who came on the trip.”
There is really no way to describe how grateful we are for this MF Sicilia group. They left space to truly greet each other, become fast friends, and by the end of the week, everyone was giving tearful hugs and making promises to re-find one another in some corner of the globe. Oh dear Feasters, thank you for teaching me one of life’s most important rules: bring your whole spirit and it’ll pay you back a million times over.
